Today the City Council of Longville approved a resolution to conduct an independent technical review of the Girl Lake rock arch rapids structure. The City shall select and retain an independent professional, approve the scope of work, hold the professional-services contract, receive the resulting work product, and determine whether additional phases of review should be authorized.
The DNR and other participants shall be invited to cooperate fully and provide records, technical information, access, explanations, and other assistance appropriate to the independent review.
As part of its resolution, the City agreed to establish a separate fund whereby interested members of the community could contribute money to the RAR review project. At the meeting, the City was presented with $45,000 in checks and an additional $7,500 in pledged commitments from members of the community. The City will setup an on-line donation page on its website to accept funds from others who want to support the project.
The City Council also approved a letter in response to DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen’s letter of September 2 in which they asked the Commissioner to make it a priority to provide project records requested in the City’s letter to the Commissioner on August 19.
