On August 19, 2026, the City Council of Longville passed a resolution to file a complaint with Sarah Strommen, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, related to the new rock arch rapids dam on Boy River. We had previously published an article explaining how the City of Longville had the right to take such action under Minnesota law.
The resolution and the complaint call for an independent investigation of the new dam which was implemented in November 2025. Council members agreed that the current drought is a major factor affecting water levels in the Woman Lake chain of lakes. However, they also acknowledged that many area residents have expressed concerns that the new dam may be contributing to lower lake levels and that an independent engineering evaluation of the dam is warranted.
