I have owned my property on Broadwater Bay for 39 years and the water level has never been this low in those 39 yrs. 6 yrs ago I placed coir log at my shoreline to prevent erosion of my small beach in an opening between my 5 ft ice ridge at the water line. The water line is now 4 ft below that coir log! And over the winter a new ice ridge was starting to form 2 ft away from the current one!

The lake water level is low and will only get lower if the outflow stays ahead of the inflow and precipitation. I would like to have a DNR representative respond and explain how the outflow can still be happening at such a greater rate than the inflow with the current low levels if the dam height is at the appropriate level. Lake Minnetonka has a dam at Gray's Bay which they use to slow or stop outflow when the lake level is low and homeowners and boaters can't experience the lake appropriately. Shouldn't that be a goal for water levels in Girl, Child, and Woman lakes?

I am a former hydrologist with a masters degree in water resources science. I would really like to see this issue studied by independent professional. To me it looks like the new outlet is permitting a much higher volume of flow than the old outlet would have at the same water level.

It’s obvious to see the outflow of water leaving Girl Lake is substantially more than prior to the new RAR installation. While the DNR may claim the height is the same the width or breadth of it is not. Thus the issue. It is hard to understand why a volumetric water flow study was not performed before construction and then again after completion of the RAR. It’s a simple study that should have been performed and the DNR was negligent in not doing so.

I have come to Woman lake for 67 years and have never seen the lake level this low. As a home owner on Woman lake, we have had to add an 8 ft section of dock 3 years ago and again we have run out of dock to access the boat lift. These are very costly fixes and wonder what's next.

I measured water level on my property on 8/1/26 and noted water level down 16” from normal. We received 3/4” of rain during the week and on 8/8/26 I noted the water level DROPPED another 1” to 17” below normal levels. On 7/18/26 I measured water levels noting it was down 14” from normal. Per above, two weeks later it had dropped 2” to 16” below normal. An inch per week! The problem is obviously the dam.

It’s astonishing how low the lake is this summer. Much more significant than a drought. I am concerned for the health of the lake and it’s property owners as well as long term effects.

It only seems fair for the residents/users of the lake to make a Decision on what the levels of the lake should be, especially if the state is modifying the levels without any notification to the tax payers. The lake is a state owned natural resource, therefore the people paying the taxes on the resource should have a say in what happens with that resource

We have had our lake home on Woman Lake on the east side of Broadwater Bay since 2003. We have never seen the water level so low even during previous draught periods. While the current draught is clearly impacting the water level, I to believe the new dam structure has had a profound impact on the water level and needs to be revised to let less water to drain.

I have been coming to Woman Lake for 40 years and spent thousands of dollars on dock extensions. Never has the Woman Lake been so low. Getting my boat off the lift right now requires manual effort to get it off and on my lift. If no water is coming into the lake why is water allowed to exit.

This is a VERY serious issue. The lake levels are extremely low and continue to drop at alarming rates week after week after week. Immediate action must be taken to prevent Woman Lake water levels from dropping any more. Corrective action on the RAR must be implemented ASAP. The negative impact to the shoreline, habitat and property owners must be reversed.

Having been a family property owner on Woman Lake since 1976 this is the lowest water level I have experienced ever. I have had to add sections to my dock and to the shore tracker system on our boathouse this year because of the low water levels. The shore tracker was installed in 1991. Even with the 10’ tracker extension I still have difficulty accessing and launching my boat due to the water levels. We have had to spend thousands of dollars this year to access the lake from our property.

The water level on women lake is the lowest I have seen it in the 40 years zi have been here. There is an issue with the new Dam. More water is coming in then going out that is not right. The DNR could not tell us what the volume of water coming into the women lake chain and the amount going out prior to and after the new Dam. You need to find that out and note it to all.

The Woman Lake Chain is a valuable asset to the lakes area. For over 30 years I travel to Longvilled each weekend, I have great concern with this new damn structure. Prior to the new structure very little water ran out of Girl Lake, now with the new structure it appears to have constant rapids flowing out which has a big coincidence in timing that Woman Lake chain is at a historic low water level. Knowing we are in a drought, this timing is of great concern and needs to be investigated further.

I have recreated at Woman Lake for over 20 years, and my brother owns a cabin on Broadwater Bay. He is a disabled vet and can n9 longer store his boat on his lift nor be able to launch his boat for recrearional purposes. I have never seen the lake thus low in all the times I have visited throughout the year. Having a science background, I strongly support the study that local citizens & interested parties is requesting to conduct. Thank you very much!

I have been on Woman Lake 31 years. Over that time. I've seen high and low water. In the past, when water was this low, the spillway in Girl Lake stuck above the water and no water was running out. Based on my measurements of stains on docks around the lake, the current level is 17" below normal. I'm seeing exposed rocks I've never seen. And water is still running out of the new fish ladder. The DNR blames this on the drought. The lack of rain is accurate, and nobody is contesting that. But, at this point, water should not be running out of the lake. And there are speculations of lost and missing history. I've tried to get public records on the fish ladder project, but so far have been told there are none. That makes no sense. I'll keep trying. Also, the timing of the culvert replacement on 11 seems more than coincidental. If anyone has looked, it appears the bottom of the culvert has been lowered. This only adds up as deceptive. I believe the truth will require a very aggressive law firm and class action. A resolution will get buried in the hands of politicians.

We have owned a place on Little Woman Lake for over 25 years. We have never seen the lake as low as it currently is. We are unable to use our boat lifts (we do not remove them in the winter because we don't get ice damage). The tunnel under Hwy 5 is also the lowest we've ever seen it.

The water levels are obviously very low and have been trending downward for the last few years. It's very concerning to see that while the Woman Lake chain water levels are down, Blackwater is actually up compared to last year. I understand that lighter winters contribute to this, but I feel as though widening and increasing the flow of the dam has significantly contributed.

After the new dam has been in service, I am very concerned with the water lake levels at our cabin near broadwater bay and keeneemoosha resort. We are not able to put in our boat lift, and I am scared to try to even get my new boat to our dock. Something needs to be addressed with the water flowing out of woman lake, I have been coming to our cabin that my grandfather built in 1968, my whole 40 years of my life and it has never been as low as this. My neighbor was not able to use his pontoon this year because it is too shallow. Please address this issue in a timely manner, it basically makes the lake unusable for many of us that have property on woman lake.

I was concerned with accelerated outflow after the June 25th meeting which established a new low water level at an elevation of 1321.2 feet versus the previous level at 1322.6 feet. This is the lowest I have witnessed in the 15 years spent on this lake.

RAR project implemented by the DNR is obviously caused the Woman lake chain water levels to reach seemingly all time low levels. Water exiting the chain far exceeds the water entering. This needs to be fixed despite the DNR's refusal to admit its mistakes. The removed beaver dams for one.

We have seasonal property on Girl Lake, Cass County, Mn. We are very concerned about the water level in the lakes and also about water quality since the levels have dropped so much. We also know the lake supports the area wildlife, deer and other animals visit the lake shores regularly, the eagles and osprey for food supply, the loons and other birds also call the lake home. They must also be considered when the lake levels are so low.

I have a lake home on Woman Lake and have great concern over the water levels since the new dam was put in. It is obviously the biggest issue in the water levels since it was built. We are not stupid. Property values will go down , especially on Child where access is no longer available. We need to make a change asap.

We respectfully request that the appropriate state and local agencies conduct a thorough review of the water flow data, evaluate the operation and impact of the new Girl Lake RAR, and determine whether adjustments or additional measures are necessary to help protect the lake chain while balancing downstream water management needs. We also ask that the findings and any planned actions be communicated transparently to the public. The health of these lakes is vital to our communities, local businesses, wildlife habitat, and property owners. We appreciate your attention to this matter and your leadership in ensuring that science-based decisions are made to safeguard this important natural resource.

Been apart of Woman Lake for 4 decades and am the 4 generation with my kids following to have the privilege of using these Great Lakes. This last week was a hardship that could be avoided and resolved. I couldn’t use my normal access, I tried and had to hand pull my boat through a harbor after it was stuck. I had to use the public access on the north side of the lake which isn’t easy either with the inappropriate boat loading using power(another issue). My family will always be apart of this lake and will continue to take our weekend trip here. I have taught watersport lessons for over 13 years and know with these current conditions, watersports, fishing, and other lake activities will be changed forever. Please consider the opportunity to research and properly evaluate the impact on our Great Lake chain.

My grandparents own a cabin on Girl Lake, and I have grown up spending summers at the lake and making some of my favorite memories there. Fishing, swimming, boating, and spending time with my family on the water have been a huge part of my childhood. It is really concerning to see how low the water levels have become and to think about what that could mean for the future of the lake. I want to be able to share the same experiences and create those memories with my own family someday. I also understand how important the lakes are to the entire Longville community. The lake brings families, visitors, and tourism to the area and supports so many local businesses. I strongly support an independent study so we can understand what is causing the low water levels and make sure we are doing everything possible to protect Girl Lake and the entire Woman Lake chain for future generations.

My in-laws own property on the Woman Lake chain, and my wife and I have been coming to the lake and making memories here for more than 18 years. This place has become a very important part of our family and our lives. We spend our time fishing, boating, swimming, and enjoying everything the lakes and the Longville community have to offer. We are very concerned about the declining water levels and the impact they are having on the lake and those who enjoy it. It is becoming increasingly difficult to boat and fully enjoy the water, and we worry about what continued low levels could mean for property values, recreation, and the long-term health of the lake. We also recognize how important the Woman Lake chain is to Longville and its tourism. The lakes are a major part of what brings families and visitors to the area and supports local businesses. We strongly support an independent study to determine what is contributing to the low water levels and whether the new RAR structure is playing a role. We want to see the facts, understand the problem, and do what is necessary to preserve these lakes and the Longville community for future generations.

As a property owner on the Woman Lake chain, I strongly support this petition and the request for an independent study of the new Girl Lake outlet structure. The declining water levels are having a very real impact on our property and our ability to enjoy the lake. We can no longer get our jet skis off the lift because the water is simply too shallow, and our boat barely has enough depth to get out. Beyond the impact on our family’s ability to fish, boat, swim, and enjoy the lake, we are concerned about what continued low water levels could mean for our property value. Just as importantly, the lakes are a huge part of what attracts people to Longville and supports local businesses and tourism. If the lakes become increasingly difficult to navigate and enjoy, the impact will extend far beyond individual property owners. We understand that drought and natural conditions play a role in water levels, which is why we believe an independent study is so important. We need objective data to determine whether the new RAR structure is contributing to the problem and, if so, what can be done to protect the lakes, our properties, and the Longville community for generations to come.

I strongly support this petition and the request for an independent study of the new Girl Lake outlet structure. While I am not currently the homeowner, I am a second-generation owner who will eventually inherit the property from my parents, and my family has a deep connection to the Woman Lake chain. Some of our favorite times together are spent fishing, boating, swimming, and simply enjoying the water. We are increasingly concerned about the low water levels and how they are affecting our ability to enjoy the lakes. We also recognize that the health and accessibility of these lakes are about much more than individual property owners—they are a huge part of what makes Longville special and are vital to the community’s tourism and local economy. I believe an independent, objective study is the right way to determine how much of the current water-level issue is related to drought and natural conditions and whether the new RAR structure is contributing to the problem. We owe it to the lake, the Longville community, and future generations to make sure the facts are understood and that the lakes remain healthy and accessible for years to come.

The continued lowering lake level at my property on Girl Lake is concerning. The level has dropped about 4" over the month of July. That's due to more than just the lack of rain. I believe the RAR project is negatively impacting lake levels on the Woman Lake Chain.

This lake isn't deep enough to play around with the depths. The taxes have been assessed with previous lake levels in consideration. This changes the property shoreline value and a misrepresentation of what Women Lake has been and always should have been. How can the folks in charge of this, mismanage the water depths so badly?

I strongly support efforts to address the declining water levels on the Woman Lake Chain. The unusually low water has significantly diminished our ability to fully enjoy and safely use the lake. Boating has become more difficult and hazardous as previously submerged rocks and shallow areas now pose a greater risk of damaging boats and motors. Swimming areas are shallower and less enjoyable, and fishing access has been affected by reduced navigability in some areas. The low water levels have also created costly and ongoing challenges for shoreline property owners. Many of us have had to repeatedly adjust docks and boat lifts, incur additional expenses to relocate or modify equipment, and spend more time maintaining safe access to the water. These are burdens that go well beyond the normal seasonal fluctuations we have experienced in the past. Like many residents, I am concerned that the current water management approach is contributing to conditions that unnecessarily reduce lake levels and negatively affect recreation, safety, property enjoyment, and the local economy that depends on a healthy, accessible lake. I respectfully urge state and local officials to carefully evaluate the current management practices and take appropriate action to better balance ecological objectives with the long-standing recreational, environmental, and economic value of the Woman Lake Chain.

Navigating through the channel from Child Lake and through Little Woman Lake and under the culvert that takes you onto Woman lake is impossible without exiting your watercraft and having to push it through in both directions. This year is the 1st time this has been the case in the 21 years that I’ve been here. It’s obvious through the observations of many there is a quantity of water exit issue, thanks to those that have taken their time and efforts to discover this additional issue rather than just taking their assumptions that the water levels being dangerously low have all been caused by a drought.

I have been a property owner on Woman Lake for over 40 years. Recent decreases in water level necessitated that I replace my 32ft dock with a 48ft dock. This was necessary to allow me to use my boat on my boat lift. The dock cost over $10,000. Using the DNR Lake Finder Woman Lake Water level database information in statistical analysis of the 1502 data points, the mean value was 1323.31ft, the mode value was 1323.38ft, and the median value was 1323.33ft. Setting the Girl Lake water level limit to 1322.6ft exacerbates the low water problems.

I am a property owner on Woman Lake 3322 Shore Acres Rd NW. I am very upset that this so called project has created many issues for those of us that are on the lake and the problems this has caused. Not only did I have to add 16 feet to my dock which cost over $4,000 it is also causing major ice damage to my shoreline since the water is lower and the ice is shoving lower into the shoreline. I have had it fixed before but the contractor that fixes it mentioned that this was the worst he had seen and it looked like the ice did more damage because the water was much lower. He had no idea that this outlet structure had occurred in the fall and caused much lower levels. The so called project is costing many people on the lake a lot of money!! I don't think this was really thought out except how it would help the fish. Not a good decision.

Unfortunately, I was unable to put my boat in this year until the boat lift was moved further out to the end of the extra long dock I bought. I am a long time resident of woman and more recently girl lake. Last year the water flow out of girl lake was significantly less than it is today. It is very obvious to me that the flow out is much greater today after the new rock arch structure was installed. Just in the last few weeks the water level has dropped.. I have heard people say that downstream from girl the lake levels have increased.. Common sense tells me that something is not right.

As of the 2nd week of Aug. there about 18 - 12 inches or less of water and dropping daily in the centra of the river and lots of rocks visible in the river that normally you would never know they where there. when I moved here the river had at lest 4-5 feet of water in the river I hope something can be done about this..... where is the water going????

DNR targets are based on historic water levels. These goals ignore climate changes that we have seen in recent years. Blaming the droughts similarly ignores that drought conditions have become more common and likely will continue to be so.

40 year property owner on the chain. Have lived through several low water drought years and am familiar with the old dam on the boy river outlet in Longville. The water flow exiting is NOT correct. Water levels this past winter were off almost 2 feet yet there was a torrent of water still flowing out all winter. Someone made a mistake when setting the current dam hight by a significant margin. This Must be correctd.

My family has vacationed on woman lake for 50 years. I personally have experience with hydrogeological studies and trained in chemistry and biology. I watched an informative video regarding transfer of water out of woman lake through a step damn that has been recently opened. I am shocked that a drainage from woman lake was created and put into use without a capability to isolate it during a prolonged draught. Inputs to Woman Lake are minimal at best but you are literally draining this wonderful recreational lake. If you were looking for downstream water you should have built a weir that would allow level management. What you have created is unconscionable draining of the lake and likely without public input prior to the project

We have had our lake home on Child Lake since 1991. When we opened our cabin in May of this year we were shocked at the water level on our lake. It was far below the level we have ever encountered. This huge, sudden difference in water level is definitely way more than can be attributed to drought conditions. In my opinion, a huge mistake was made in determining the height of the outlet rock archway in Longville. I believe it is a minimum of 8 inches too low!

The concerns raised by residents are understandable, particularly given the apparent discrepancy between observed outflow and inflow. While drought conditions have undoubtedly contributed to lower water levels, obtaining and comparing pre- and post-installation flow measurements would help determine whether the new rock-arch rapids structure is affecting lake levels as intended. An independent hydrologic evaluation using current flow data and historical benchmarks would provide valuable information to address these concerns and guide any necessary next steps.

I own a lake lot on Girl Lake at 1254 Cabin Court. I am in back South bay on the lake. The water is leaving girl lake outlet so fast that the water by my dock is down 3 feet lower than just few years ago. If the lake gets lower (which with any significant drought) even with added dock I may not get out to the lake. I made significant investment for me and my family to realize a dream of having a lake property and now that investment may impact the value of my property and also limit my access to the lake in manner that my property value will become significantly less. Worst of all I may not have access to the lake in the future with the way things are going even with adding dock lengths.

It's affecting boating, fishing, wildlife, and the enjoyment of everyone who lives on or visits the lake. I'd really like to know what is being done to address the situation. We own a home on Child Lake , which we paid a premium for so we could be on the Women lake chain. Property value will drop by a large amount if we cannot access women or girl lake because of the low water level. I believe that the lake level number the DNR is using the was established years ago was wrong. And has never been officially challenged. Because the circumstances never required it. Back when this dam level was established the equipment was much more primitive and nobody was around to challenge it. Common sense says this dam is built about a foot or so too low. Measure the inflow and the outflow , our lake is being drained.

We have been coming to Woman Lake since 1985 and have never seen the water levels this low. Last fall, when Woman and the adjacent Child lake were higher than they are now, the water flowing out at the Girl Lake outlet was less than a trickle. With the DNR's new Fish ladder/ (dam) the Lakes are lower than ever and the water is rushing out into the river below Girl Lake. If no water is coming in, how can the current dam level be accurate? Shouldn't the water stop flowing out, if it's not coming in??

I believe the rock drainage should be raised we should not continue to loose water when the lake is already 24 inches low

There is no doubt the lake levels are significantly lower than point in the past 20 years and yet more is still flowing due to the new dam.

I have been a property owner on Woman Lake since 2003. I have never witnessed this low of water levels in the lake.

Loss of access to use the lake is causing stress and loss of value on my property . 35 years on girl lake with multiple droughts , this is not drought related . Legal action for loss of property value is now an option I have to consider

I own a lake home on Child Lake and the RAR outlet project has effectively cutoff Child Lake from the Child, Woman and Girl Lake chain as it is allowing the river to slowly drain the lake chain do the lower water elevation that the DNR set for the outflow. The river is now impassable as a result, and not a direct result of the drought. The river has substantially lowered itself and continues to lower itself do to the RAR project.

My family has been coming up here since 1945. The water level has NEVER been this low. We have our lifts out as far as we can from our docs and can barely get our boats in. We cannot get through the channel into Broadwater from Woman or into the channel and dicks in Longville to shop w our family in our larger boat without bottoming out. And currently unable to enter boat pool at the resort that we gas up at all summer. It is costing the resorts an enormous amount of business. And if our family has to pay for dock extensions, we will demand reimbursement. Reverse what has been done immediately or we will take legal action.

Our water levels are shrinking rapidly from week to week. This is more than just the drought!
