On September 2, 2026, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Sarah Strommen responded to the City of Longville’s complaint issued on August 19. 2026.
In her letter, Commissioner Strommen stated:
Independent reviews are outside the DNR’s normal practice; however, given the unique circumstances of this situation, we would like to work with the City to determine an appropriate scope for an independent review, identify an appropriate reviewer, and discuss sharing costs of such a review.
Members of the Woman Lake Action coalition view this as a very positive development. We understand the Commissioner’s response will be discussed at the next City Council meeting.
Sarah Strommen was appointed as DNR Commissioner by Governor Tim Walz on January 7, 2019.
