Woman Lake Action is an informal grassroots group of homeowners, seasonal residents, and recreational users who are concerned about lake level management practices in the Woman Lake chain of lakes.
Our mission is to facilitate the process of determining whether the rock arch rapids (RAR) dam constructed on Boy River in Longville, Minnesota is adversely impacting the water levels in our lakes.
Our community has documented measurable changes in water levels that affect shoreline stability, dock usability, fish habitat, and safe recreational access. These changes have created uncertainty for residents and increased the risk of long term environmental and economic harm. At the recommendation of state lawmakers, we have deployed a petition drive to advocate for an independent review of the Girl Lake rock arch rapids (RAR) to determine if it is contributing to lower lake levels.
Our petition is supported by publicly available data from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, watershed districts, county water resource departments, and resident generated observations. Together, these sources suggest that current management practices may not adequately account for seasonal evaporation, inflow variability, or the cumulative effects of outlet structure changes.
Through our petition drive, we are urging government officials to engage with affected communities, review the data, and support policies that protect shoreline integrity, water quality, and recreational access. Our goal is to work collaboratively with state agencies and policymakers to ensure responsible, science based lake level management that preserves the lake for future generations.
